Since its creation in April 2003, the Natural Health Products Research Program (NHPRP) has been actively partnering with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to support Natural Health Products research.

As part of a focussed attempt to support increase research capacity in all aspects of NHP research, the NHPRP and CIHR is exploring ways in which we can support applications through the CIHR Research Personnel program. Areas of particular interest include:

• Sectors of the community with a specific lack of research training and capacity in Natural Health Products, such as aboriginal peoples and complementary and alternative health care providers.
• Topics which will support Health Canada's role as an innovative, responsible and respectful regulator of NHPs, pharmacovigilance, assessment of different forms of evidence , post-marketing surveillance, bioethics, regulatory based research and subjects related to the NHP regulatory review process.
