The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) via its collaborative CIHR/ Canada's Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx&D) Research Program, in partnership with Aventis Pharma Inc., a member of the sanofi-aventis Group, have founded a scholarship program to further develop international collaborative efforts between researchers: Canada-HOPE Scholarship Program.

The goal of this Program is to enable promising scientists and clinicians from Low and Middle Income Countries, as identified by the Canadian International Development Agency and the United Nations, to be mentored by prominent Canadian researchers and to be exposed to some of the best science, laboratories and training environments in Canada.

The objective of this initiative is to develop research training opportunities with the potential to lead to the development of sustainable research programs to help people in developing countries.  The pilot round of this Program will focus on sub-continental South Asia.  It is the intent to gradually expand the Program to other regions of the world.
