This Strategic Plan outlines the rationale, strategic directions and operational dimensions for responding to knowledge translation component of the CIHR mandate for 2004-2009. It builds on the objectives of Investing in Canada's Future: CIHR's Blueprint For Health Research and Innovation (CIHR Blueprint 2007).
The strategy is comprised of four primary directions - Research, Talent, Capital and Linkages. The focus is primarily on the early stages in the commercialization and innovation pipeline -where CIHR-funded efforts can directly lead to the development of new products and technologies that will improve the health of Canadians, strengthen the health system, and contribute to the growth of Canada's economy.
Greater access to research publications and data will promote the ability of researchers in Canada and abroad to use and build on the knowledge needed to address significant health challenges. Open access enables authors to reach a much broader audience, which has the potential to increase the impact of their research. From a knowledge translation perspective, this policy will support our desire to expedite awareness of and facilitate the use of research findings by increasing access to research.
Trial registration consists of prospective registration of selected elements of a trial and timely disclosure of its outcomes and results. Results disclosure is regarded as a continuum of trial registration and aims to ensure wider knowledge sharing and control of publication bias.
