Update on CIHR Funding Opportunities in Commercialization

CIHR is committed to facilitating the commercialization of health research in Canada in support of its overall mandate and is offering a suite of updated programs at "
View All Current Opportunities" tab:
i) Proof of Principle (POP): Phase I or Phase II
For academic researchers aiming to commercialize a new concept (and partners for Phase II). Next deadline March 1st 2010.
New this year:
- Increased maximum grant amounts
- Increased total funding
- More favourable funding ratio for the partner (Phase II)
ii) Operating Grant - Industry-partnered Collaborative Research (2009-2010)
[Note: replaces Rx&D Operating Grant and SME Operating Grant]
For collaborative research projects bringing together academic researchers and a private sector partner. Next deadline February 15, 2010 (registration).
New this year:
- More favourable funding ratio for the partner
- Level of partner engagement now a factor in the rating process
- Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) are now eligible
iii) Other - Science to Business (2009-2010) MBA scholarship
For those holding a recent PhD in a health-related field and wanting to pursue an MBA as a next step to a career supporting innovation in Canada. Next deadline March 1st 2010.
New this year:
- Students apply directly to CIHR
- Revised award amount
- Eligibility no longer limited to MBA programs with a health-stream
