A Celebration of Excellence in Canadian Health Research is an annual opportunity for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to honour exceptional people for their remarkable contributions to health research. As individuals, recipients have demonstrated excellence in the pursuit of new knowledge. Collectively, they have helped to make Canada a healthier, more innovative and prosperous nation.
This year, CIHR is partnering with Prix Galien Canada to celebrate health research excellence. Since 1994, Prix Galien has presented annual awards for innovative biopharmaceutical research. Over the years, their prize has grown to be one of the highest honours in the pharmaceutical industry. By combining award ceremonies, CIHR and Prix Galien will be highlighting the tremendous importance of public-private partnerships in health research.
At this year's ceremony, CIHR will be presenting four gold medals to Canada's best and brightest researchers. These awards will include Canada's Health Researcher of the Year in Biomedical and Clinical Research, Canada's Health Researcher of the Year in Health Services and Systems and Population Health Research and Canada's Premier Young Researcher Award. Prix Galien will be recognizing leaders in Canadian biopharmaceutical research with the Prix Galien Research and the Prix Galien for Innovative Product.
This special evening will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
